The band-sharpening effect relies on the fact that negatively charged glycinate ions (in the electrophoresis buffer) have a lower electrophoretic mobility than do the protein–SDS complexes, which, in turn, have lower mobility than the chloride ions (Cl − ) of the loading buffer and the stacking gel buffer.

[Cl] > [protein–SDS] > [glycinate].

#Unit 3. Fundamental Processes

Conversion of specific uridine residues to pseudouridine and the addition of methyl groups to the 2′-hydroxyl groups
of specific riboses, that are important for the proper assembly and function of snRNPs in pre-mRNA splicing.
These modifications occur in Cajal bodies, where they are directed by a class of snoRNA-like guide RNA molecules called scaRNAs (small Cajal body–associated RNAs)

Phytovolatilization
Plants remove inorganic contaminants· either by contaminant volatilization or by metal accumulation.
Volatalization is useful for the removal of mercury. A bacterial mercuric ion reductase has been transferred to Arabidopsis thaliana; this transgenic plant absorbs mercury, and reduces it to volatile Hg0, which volatilizes from the leaf surface.
