9 In your study of a new bacterial species you have identified a transducing phage that you call Px. In addition you have worked out methods to make random transposon insertions into the bacterial genome. You have generated two different transposon insertion collections one with 105 random Tn5 (Kanr) insertions and the other with 105 random Tn10 (Tetr) insertions. You grow Px phage on the mixed collection of Tn5 insertions and use the resulting phage lysate to infect the mixed collection of Tn10 insertions. You select 10,000 Kanr  transductants and find that 80 of them are Tets. Use this information to estimate the total size of the bacterial genome assuming that both Tn5 and Tn10 insert randomly and that the average size of a fragment recombined into the recipient genome during Px transduction is 55 kbp. (Tn5 is about 5 kbp and Tn10 is 10 kbp.)

Two non allelic genes P and Q governed Glume color in sorghum.

P... qq  = blakish purple           P.. Q...  = raddish purple

pp Q...  = brown                      ppqq    =  brown

A cross was allowed between PpQq and ppQq. What is proportional of their progeny with Blakish, Raddish and brown respectively?

#Unit 8. Inheritance Biology

Fruit color in eggplant due to interaction of three non-allelic genes A, B and C.  These three non-allelic genes are produce purple phenotype when they come together or separately. Following some genotype and their phenotype is given.

                                  A- -- --         Purple

                                 -- B- --         Purple

                                 -- -- C-         purple

                                 aabbcc         White

A Plant genotype AaBbcc was cross to plant with genotype aabbcc. What is probability of white phenotype among their offspring?

#Unit 8. Inheritance Biology

In chickens, comb shape is determined by alleles at two loci (R, r and P, p). A walnut comb is produced when at least one dominant allele R is present at one locus and at least one dominant allele P is present at a second locus (genotype R_ P_). A rose comb is produced when at least one dominant allele is present at the first locus and two recessive alleles are present at the second locus (genotype R_pp). A pea comb is produced when two recessive alleles are present at the first locus and at least one dominant allele is present at the second (genotype rrP_). If two recessive alleles are present at the first and at the second locus (rrpp), a single comb is produced. Which of the following cross would produce ½ walnut and ½ pea comb ?

True breeding agouti mice with genotype AABB were cross to true breeding albino mice with genotype aabb. All F1 offspring having agouti phenotype were allowed to intercross to produce F2 progeny as following number –

                                 A- B -     180 agouti,

                                 aa B-        60 black

                                 --  bb        80 albino

A Male Mice with Aabb genotype was cross with female mice with AaBB genotype. What is probability of Black phenotype among their offspring?
