What are osteoblasts?

#Unit 5. Developmental Biology
  1. Osteoblasts are the proliferating precursors of the chondrocytes.
  2. Osteoblasts are maturing chondrocytes, capable of secreting the cartilage present in the growth plate.
  3. Osteoblasts are enlarged chondrocytes present in the hypertrophic zone of the growth plate.
  4. Osteoblasts are bone-forming cells that derive from stem cells in the bone marrow, and therefore have no lineage relationship to chondrocytes.
