The interphase nuclei of some tissues of the larvae of dipteran flies contain chromosomes that are greatly enlarged relative to their usual condition. They possess both increased diameter and greater length. shows an example of a chromosome set from the salivary gland of D. melanogaster. The members of this set are called polytene chromosomes.

The polyadenylation reaction passes through two stages.
First, a rather short oligo(A) sequence (10 residues) is added to the 3’ end. This reaction is absolutely dependent on the AAUAAA sequence and poly(A) polymerase performs it under the direction of the specificity factor.
In the second phase, the nuclear poly(A) binding protein (PABP II) binds the oligo(A) tail to allow extension of the poly(A) tail to the full 200 residue length.

Temperate forests
Temperate forests are largely found between 40° and 60° N of the equator.
Temperate rain forest (Evergreen): Temperatures are a little cooler, 5–25°C on average, and winters are mild, but there is abundant rainfall, usually exceeding 200 cm a year
Temperate Deciduous Forest (lose their leaves in winter):  Temperatures fall below freezing each winter but not usually below –12°C, and annual rainfall is generally between 75 and 200 cm. Soils are rich in organic and inorganic nutrients, and quite fertile.
