#Unit 5. Developmental Biology

First possible mechanisms for neoblast specification during regeneration:
A single pluripotent neoblast is responsible for generating new cell progenitors that form the multipotent cells of the blastema.

DOMINANT EPISTASIS

In dominant epistasis, however, only a single copy of an allele is required to inhibit the expression of an allele at a different locus.

The plasma proteins are also responsible for 15% of the buffering capacity of the blood because of the weak ionization of their substituent COOH and NH2 groups.

#Unit 6. System Physiology – Plant

Inhibitors of ethylene action
Most of the effects of ethylene can be antagonized by specific ethylene inhibitors. Silver ions (Ag+) applied as silver nitrate (AgNO3) or as silver thiosulfate (Ag(S2O3)2 3–) are potent inhibitors of ethylene action. Silver is very specific; the inhibition it causes cannot be induced by any other metal ion.

#Unit 1. Molecules and their Interaction Relevant to Biology

Lipids as pigments in plants and bird feathers.
Birds acquire the pigments that color their feathers red or yellow by eating plant materials that contain carotenoid pigments, such as canthaxanthin and zeaxanthin.
The differences in pigmentation between male and female birds are the result of differences in intestinal uptake and processing of carotenoids.
